Help & support
A little help
getting started.
How listening checks work, what the app needs, and where to find help.
How do I start or stop monitoring?
Complete the introduction, allow microphone access, and tap “Start Monitoring.” You can stop at any time with “Stop Monitoring” on the home screen. Monitoring needs microphone access to check for sound.
Why does the app need my microphone?
The current version combines your device’s output volume with a brief microphone check to confirm that sound is present. It processes sound on your device without saving an audio recording or recognizing speech.
Why is the microphone indicator still on between checks?
The audio session may remain active to keep background monitoring available. Sound analysis uses short windows, designed to run about every five minutes in the release configuration. The microphone indicator may remain visible between those windows. Tap “Stop Monitoring” to end capture.
I denied microphone access. What should I do?
Use “Open Settings” in the app and enable microphone access. Return to the app and start monitoring. You can also manage the permission in your device’s privacy settings.
Why does the screen say “Waiting for listening checks”?
The app waits for enough completed checks before displaying guidance. A single high reading does not immediately become a high-volume warning. Leave monitoring on and allow time for subsequent checks.
Is this a calibrated decibel meter?
No. The current version provides approximate guidance based on device volume and the presence of sound. It does not measure calibrated dB or dBA, estimate a personal noise dose, or guarantee hearing safety. It is not a medical device or a replacement for professional measurement.
Can I use it to measure a TV or external speaker?
The current guidance is based on playback from the device running the app. It should not be treated as a reliable measurement of a separate TV, external speaker, or sound level at your ears.
Will monitoring always work in the background?
Background monitoring depends on iOS and the active audio session. Calls and other interruptions can pause capture, and audio routing can affect playback behavior. Check the monitoring status in the app after an interruption; stop and restart monitoring if needed.
Why don’t I hear a spoken warning?
Spoken warnings are not implemented in the current development version. The app currently provides on-screen guidance. Notification permission controls are present, but permission alone does not enable the planned warning feature.
Are the listening history numbers real?
Not yet. Today, Week, and Month currently show sample previews, not saved listening records. Persistent listening history is planned.
Where can I download the app?
The app is currently presented here as in development. An App Store link will be added when available.
